Drug and Substance Abuse: A woman's nightmare
Drug and substance abuse: A woman's nightmare
My heart is bleeding for women out there. Women in every form they come in, mothers, wives, sisters and daughters who have been given a bitter pill to swallow by drug and substance abuse in our different communities.
From the moment they give birth, a woman wishes nothing but the best for their children. From a very tender age mothers see doctors, teachers, engineers, presidents etc in their children. Our mothers sacrifice a lot of things for us to get a quality education and to be respectable people in our communities.
Imagine the heartbreak ,when a mother who worked so hard to raise her child loses that same child to crystal meth popularly known in Zimbabwean streets as Guka.
Today in Marondera I woke up to the sad news of a Guka user (name withheld) who was stabbed by another Guka user ( name also withheld) with a scissors over a drug related argument.
Everyone has their own opinion regarding this issue but one can only imagine what the mothers, sisters, daughters and wives of these two are going through.
It is high time that we stand up as women and do something about drug and substance abuse. Many youths are being turned into addicts and thieves because of drugs only to end up in jail. And in most cases for many women it does not end with going to jail. Women are left with families to look after especially if the male figure was the bread winner. Even if they are not arrested women are still burdened with looking after families on their own because the only thing an addict thinks of is getting money for their next fix.
We are living in a society where the drug dealers and suppliers are known but nothing is being done to stop them. It's sad because for most of us the only thing we can do is to watch while the future of our brothers, sons and husbands is being thrown away because of drugs.
Drug and substance is a monster that all of us should be fighting against.
Feministry!
Real talk ,for every man affected by drugs there is a group of women devastated by it. The mother, the wife and the daughter are directly affected. So for every one man affected by drugs there are 3 women affected immidiately.
