The "W' in Worker stands for women!
Today is International Workers Day, a day to commemorate men and women who make the world go round.
These people are bound by nine to five engagements to ensure that there is balance and stability on the welfare of humanity.
There is one worker whom we may not recognise befittingly on a day like today. This worker ensures that before, during and after being a force to reckon with she is there to set the ground and get the ball rolling.
She is either your wife who wakes up an hour before you do to run that bath , cook and prepare your clothes for work.
She is that mother that wakes you up when you ignore the chimes of that not so effective bedside alarm.
That woman whom you retire to at home to find a warm and scrumptious cooked meal that she would have prepared for you regardless of her own pressures.
She is that worker that tirelessly keeps everything in check even waking up in the middle of the night just to check if she remembered to switch off the oven or close that kraal .
Her day starts earlier than everyone's be it she is a mother, wife or daughter.
In the Hussle and bussle of the city or deep down in the rural dwelling with all nature's dangers lurking she is the first to wake up to fetch water.
Formally employed or unemployed her day wraps way after everybody else retires and is snoring.
She may not receive 'worker of the year' award or be commemorated as an exceptional worker par excellence.
She is 'The Worker that work itself recognises and bows to.
The word Worker is meaningless without the letter 'W' for it stands for 'Woman'.
Happy workers day to all the hardworking women out there
