We need female leaders!
There is an adage that says, "if you give a woman a house she will turn it into home" and I believe the same qualities that enable her to turn a house into a home will also enable her to turn a country into a beautiful nation. In Shona they even say "Musha Mukadzi " which means that women are generally home builders. They bring peace and stability in families, socities and the nation at large and this is why we need female political leaders.
For a long time women have shunned away from politics because they have been made to believe that they are domestic workers. The political arena has been male dominated for a very long time but it is high time we change that mind because women can also do it.
It high time that women participate in decision making and political circles. Political parties should strive for gender parity in their structures, an equal opportunity should be given to both male and female candidates in any given political party. Women should be given opportunities to contest for both council and parliament seats because as women we also need female leaders.
Women's participation in the political arena will be vital in making feminine decisions that the male folk does not and will never understand.
Most policies that are made in the house of parliament or at council level affect women negatively at the end of the day. It is women who go for miles in search of water when the council is reluctant to act on efficient supply of water. It is women who walk miles in search for firewood when there is no electricity. It is the woman in the rural areas who uses cow dung instead of sanitary pads when economic policies are not put in place to ensure that sanitary pads are affordable and accessible to every woman. In rural areas women carry infants on their backs escorting them to schools that are far away.
Therefore it is high time for someone who truly understands the burden of ill baked policies to step into power and that is a female leader. It takes a woman to fully represent both men and women for she is a mother naturally and she also understands a fellow woman's plight.
There is need to do away with dirty and harmful political practices that make it difficult for women to be politically active, labelling of women in political spheres should not be tolerated and political parties need to go back to the drawing board and field female candidates for both council and parliamentary seats.
As women let's be a sister's keeper and support our fellow sisters in politics as this will enable them to fight our war of gender equality, empowerment and women's rights.
Women representation is crucial for women empowerment not only through the quota system but there is need for more women to run for parliamentary and council seats. The ball is in our court as females to take up leadership positions, to vote for other women who are in politics and most importantly to register to vote.
Let us bring the peace and stability that is in our homes to the political arena because "Musha Mukadzi."
Feministry!

Profound Miss Ennah!
